KTM Slate Roof Gives Stone Mountain Park’s Memorial Hall a Classic Look
Located just minutes from Atlanta, Stone Mountain Park is known as an excellent family destination cherished by metro Atlanta residents and tourists to the area. Unique to the surrounding landscape, Stone Mountain is a giant isolated piece of granite that measures 825 feet tall and over five miles in circumference around the base.
Stone Mountain Park Memorial Hall
In 2006 KTM Roofing repaired a slate roof onto Stone Mountain Park’s Memorial Hall. Memorial Hall is a museum that educates visitors about the historical aspects, along with the geological and ecological features of the area. A back patio on Memorial Hall overlooks a large grassy field, vintage steam engine train and the focal point of Stone Mountain Park, the carving on the side of the mountain.
Stone Mountain Park Carving
The main feature of the park is a carving of Confederate leaders of the Civil War, including President Jefferson Davis, General Robert E. Lee and Thomas J. “Stonewall Jackson. The carving underwent multiple design changes and project leaders, spanning a half century to complete. Measuring 90 feet by 190 feet, the monument is larger than Mount Rushmore.
The flat surface of the mountain and large grassy hillside across from the carving provides an excellent backdrop for Stone Mountain Parks 40-minute Lasershow Spectacular. The show includes a tribute to Georgia and is accompanied by choreographed music.
Creating an Instant Classic Slate Roof
Stone Mountain Park made the right decision to contractor KTM Roofing for installing a slate roof on Memorial Hall. With various roofing case studies, many including slate and tile, KTM is one of the only Atlanta roofers that had the experience to complete a slate roofing installation on a building with the size and complexity as Memorial Hall.
Slate Roof Distinct Purples and Greens
For Memorial Hall’s new roof, Vermont Slate was chosen as the material of choice. Selected for its purple and green tones, the roofing material complements the buildings architecture and the backdrop of the mountain behind it.
