What is a Soffit Vent?
A soffit vent is an intake vent in the soffit area of the house. Its purpose is to provide attic venting at a lower portion of the roof deck and good circulation with other forms of venting such as ridge or roof vents. Soft vents are typically painted to blend in and are often rectangular, but can also be round.
Probably won’t hear of other phrases used. This is a term that is common to the roofing industry and foreign sounding to most consumers. Like other common phrases you may hear context clues around its purpose.
Why it Matters
Like many parts of a roof’s ventilation system, these are not up-sells, these are essentials. Having good circulation is critical to keep hot air and moisture out of the attic. The soffit vent helps accomplish this by playing a role in circulating the air. You KTM consultant can describe how your soffit vents work within your home’s roof, and if any repairs, replacements, or upgrades are needed.
