What is a Shed Roof?
A shed roof is a roof containing only one sloping plane. Shed roofs are a single-pitch roof, with no hips, ridges, valleys or gables. The area at the top is called a clearstory, or clerestory.
You may also hear this referred to as a half gable or single-pitch roof.
Why it Matters
Whether you call it a shed roof, or half gable, these roofs typically are extensions to the home. It is an architectural terms that you may hear as the consultant describes options and suggestions. These roofs can have many different pitches and additional precautions might be needed if it is a low slope.
