What is a Cricket?
A cricket is a wood-framed structure that diverts water away from chimneys, walls or other vertical roof projections and penetrations.
Sometimes you’ll hear roofers refer to a cricket as a “saddle.”
Why it Matters
A roofing system is more than shingles. Several other components make up a roof with the purpose of keeping the inside of the home dry and protected. Whether you call it a cricket or a saddle this structure is critical to diverting water away for openings. As roofs age this is an area that can fail and lead to leaks.
